Never Say Never

Some things we don’t talk about
Rather do without and just hold the smile
Falling in and out of love
Ashamed and proud of, together all the while

– The Fray

There’s just something about the fairer sex, some alluring quality that can’t be duplicated.

The air is brisk but comforting. I start walking and smile to myself with a sense of accomplishment. I’m still not exactly sure how I got to this place. This state of mind. I’m never really like this. I could always take the time to ponder the situation, but I’m never really one to question my good fortune.

I’m supposed to be waiting for her. A gentleman would. But like always I arrive late and she’s there waiting. She’s pretending to be upset but her cute smile betrays her.

“Did you get lost?” she says pseudo-vexed.

I’m quick to reply,”Yeah, I went left when I should have gone right, then I did a serpentine just to show off.”

She rolls her eyes. I think she might actually be upset… Then she laughs. And it’s that kind of laugh girls give when they just don’t wanna laugh. It does not go unnoticed. I give her a smug smile, and before I push my luck any further I pull her close, kiss her lightly on her forehead and sarcastically forgive her for being early. She just shakes her head and tells me it’s lucky I’m cute. She brushes her body against mine as I’m holding the door to the venue. I lead her in with my hand on the small of her back. That also does not go unnoticed.
